Craftsmanship and Patina:
- Our fire pits are meticulously crafted using 1/4" mild carbon steel. The steel undergoes a precise sandblasting process, bringing it down to its bare essence. We then apply our unique "secret sauce" to initiate a controlled oxidation process, allowing the piece to mature and develop its distinct character.
- Upon arrival, you'll notice a dusty, powdery iron oxide patina, also known as rust. With each fire, the patina will gradually mature and darken, evolving into a rich and enduring hue.
- For wood-burning fire pits, the maturing process occurs more rapidly due to higher temperatures, whereas gas-fueled fire pits mature at a slower rate as their flame temperature is lower (200 degrees). With each subsequent fire, you'll witness a fascinating transformation in the patina's color.
- Avoid covering your fire pit with a tarp, as it can hinder the natural oxidation process and even transfer its color to the steel. Keep wet leaves and debris away from the piece during the maturing phase to allow it to evolve gracefully with each use.
